Team Overview:


We are the Care Management software engineering team. Our application integrates with multiple systems including Northwell Health's internal Health Information Exchange (HIE) platform that connects data from different Electronic Health Records (EHR) and insurance claims so that care managers and community providers have a centralized and comprehensive view of each patient allowing them to document Patient care updates. Our team creates a competitive advantage through providing care managers and community providers a consolidated view of the information they need to provide efficient care and is delivered by a highly skilled and motivated full-cycle software development & support organization.

Position Summary:


We are looking for an Senior level Database Administrator/Engineer who will work closely with software architects, lead developers, software engineers, and DevOps engineers, to design the data storage mechanisms for on premise and cloud based/serverless web applications, as well as troubleshoot application and database performance issues. The candidate will ensure reliable operations and availability of the databases by providing timely maintenance and updates while working with team members on data design and specifications for upcoming features and development efforts. The Software Engineering and Development department follows an Agile/Scrum methodology, and has a team of Product Owners and UX Designers that follow user centered and design thinking principles. This is an opportunity to join a group of high-performing, self-directed technologists, to produce highly usable and highly performant enterprise-scale software applications for the healthcare industry.

 

Remote candidates will be considered. Will be required to travel to NY office on occasion

Responsibilities

  • Estimate effort for self and agree on schedules with Scrum Teams
  • Create and maintain appropriate documentation (Database, Architecture, etc.)
  • Assist in analyzing and diagnosing problems reported to the help desk, escalate support issues.
  • Work with the development teams in the data modelling and database design of product and efficient SQL for fast application performance, including advanced architectural techniques.
  • Assist in DevOps, working with Architects and Engineers to automate code promotion and deployment up the stack of environments, ensuring successful, repeatable deployments through Production, with consistent quality.
  • Research and identify third party tools / software that improves the efficiency of the development process
  • Activate and configure database system software plus third-party system tools, applications and products.
  • Performance Optimization – Performance monitoring, measurement and capacity planning of Production Software solutions, recommending changes to products and “standardized” System configurations.
  • Implement, periodically test and review appropriate data access and security measures, including access control, audit, backup/restore and system rebuild & recovery processes.
  • Implement and continuously improve the database infrastructure environment. Provide fast and value-added services to the development organization.
  • Participate in the process of ensuring that identified Business Continuity measures are implemented, documented and regularly tested to enable continue operations of systems identified as requiring such protection in accordance with the corporate Disaster Recovery program.
  • Stay current with the database technologies, both SQL and NoSQL.
  • Provide an ad-hoc Level 3 support service to the dedicated Service Desk Analysts and Support Engineers, as well as tech leads of various applications.
  • Carry out prescribed programs of computer system performance management and capacity planning for systems as designated by Management to ensure the necessary system capacity and performance is available as required.
  • Pro-actively seek and acquire technical training, vocational training and market and product awareness such that skills remain current, relevant and valued.
  • Accurately estimate effort for self and other application DBAs, and fully participate in Scrum ceremonies with software development teams.
  • Liaise with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Development Management to keep all informed of overall status, issues, and opportunities for architecture-level improvements.

Qualifications

Academic and Professional Qualifications:

  •  Successful completion of a Bachelors Degree or relevant database experience.

 

Experience:

  •  2-5 years industry experience preferred
  •  5-10 years database product knowledge preferred 
  • Cloud based SQL and NoSQL knowledge and experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced data storage and retrieval mechanisms strongly preferred.

 

Travel Requirements:

  •  May require local travel
  •  May require other travel for business needs

 

Working Arrangements:

  • May require after hours on call support
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards
