The RCM Team Lead for Payments and Credits is responsible to oversee the payment posting and credits team on the Epic platform. Candidates who apply should have a minimum of 3 years of experience as payment posters on the Epic platform and been involved in resolving credits/refunds for both insurance and patient payers. The Team Lead for Payments and Credits resolves issues related to remittance advice processing and understands how the Epic platform adjudicates claims and can troubleshoot issues for resolution. This position is also responsible for managing the payment posting bandwidth and serves as resource to train oncoming payment posters, credits analysts, supports month-end payment posting and works with reconciliation to ensure we balance with the clients deposits. This is a dual position with its own workload along with oversight to train, audit and monitor the group for accurate procedures and turnaround. Ensure workflow, including collecting payments stays current and on track with regards to insurance carriers, patients, clients and internal interactions.



  • Oversee remittance and credit work queues within Epic.
  • Ability to troubleshoot payment posting and credit/refund issues.
  • Serves as a point of escalation for payment posters and credit analysts to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Proactively manages credit and payment work queues to address the staffing needs required to be current for both.
  • Trains payment posters and credit analysts to work efficiently within the Epic environment.
  • Run, review and work unpaid patient balance reports for payment by reading current notes and
    place for past due letters and phone calls.
  • Support and follow the reconciliation process for payments.
  • Supports month end payment posting requirements including but not limited to being the resource who needs to backfill for any resources who have fallen behind in payment posting to close the month strong.
  • Strong customer service skills; answering client calls; prompt return and follow up to all
    interactions; prompt response to requests for information, both internally and externally.
  • Review and work insurance and patient overpayments, prepare refund request and send to
    doctor's office.
  • Organize, identify and improve managers workflow through daily and weekly productivity reports
    report challenges and concerns and request need for assistance to supervisor.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the payment entry specialist and credit analyst.
  • Keep manager informed of progress, achievements and issues; assist staff with processes,
    information and workload
  • Complies and enforces all policies and procedures related to the position, the department and the
  • Achieve goals set forth by supervisor regarding error-free work, transactions, processes and
    compliance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • 5 years minimum experience on the Epic platform
  • A minimum of 3 years of payment posting experience within Epic
  • Recommended but not required: experience working with credits and refunds within the Epic platform
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year certificate from college or technical school preferred
  • CA payor experience preferred 
  • Extensive knowledge on use of email, search engine, Internet; ability to effectively use payer websites and Laserfiche; knowledge and use of Microsoft Products: Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Preferred experience with other platforms like Allscripts.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to present ideas in
    business-friendly and user-friendly language; Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail; team-oriented, collaborative; ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Communication: Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints from employees and clients. Ability to speak clearly and to make effective and persuasive arguments and presentations.
  • Math & Reasoning: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to use critical thinking skills to apply principles of logic and analytical thinking to practical problems.
