The primary purpose of this role is to install, design, implement, upgrade, and optimize the performance of databases required to operate Allscripts' software solutions.

 

This position can be based in our Raleigh, NC office or Remote

Responsibilities

  • Estimates effort for self and agree on schedules with Project Manager
  • Creates and maintains appropriate documentation (Database, Architecture, etc.)
  • Analyzes and diagnoses problems reported to the help desk, escalate support issues
  • Discusses issues/requirements with client
  • Works with the development teams in the data modelling and database design of product and efficient SQL for fast application performance
  • Effectively supports Sales, BSG and Professional Services
  • Researches and identifies third party tools / software that improves development process
  • Installs and configures database system software plus third-party system tools, applications and products
  • Performance Optimization
  • Performance monitoring, measurement and capacity planning of Production Software solutions, recommending changes to Allscripts products and standardized System configurations
  • Implements, periodically tests and reviews appropriate data access and security measures, including access control, audit, backup/restore and system rebuild & recovery processes
  • Implements and continuously improves the database infrastructure environment. Provides fast and value-added services to the development organization
  • Participates in the process of ensuring that identified Business Continuity measures are implemented, documented and regularly tested to enable continue operations of systems identified as requiring such protection in accordance with the corporate Disaster Recovery program
  • Stays current with the DB technology. Performs software upgrades and new software installation both pro-actively and in response to requests from users of systems, including any necessary patches to database systems and applications to ensure continuing stable and secure operation
  • Provides an ad-hoc support service to users of all computer systems, troubleshooting and resolving database problems
  • Carries out prescribed programs of computer system performance management and capacity planning for systems as designated by Management to ensure the necessary system capacity and performance is available as required
  • Pro-actively seeks and acquires technical training, vocational training and market and product awareness such that skills remain current, relevant and valued within Allscripts
  • Accurately estimates effort for self and agrees schedules with manager
  • Liaise with manager; keeps manager informed of progress
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors junior team members
  • Helps recruit to build the organization with the right talent

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with a major in Computer Science, Mathematics, MIS or related
  • 5+ years relevant experience in the IT industry
  • Demonstrable detailed understanding of architecture principles and methods, technology and standards
  • Highly motivated by creating business value through the effective use of technology
  • Utilizes research and self-learning to ensure technical credibility
  • DBA Experienced with SQL Server 2012, 2014 and 2016
  • Ability to rapidly and accurately diagnose unexpected database performance issues. Senior DBA Level experience with Performance tuning at the Database and Application Level
  • Senior Level Technical Problem Solving / Troubleshooting Skills
  • Detailed knowledge of SQL Server internals, database design, T-SQL, database mirroring, log shipping ,replication , and backup/restore operations
  • Hands on experience with Large Terabyte Size databases.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Database Partitioning
  • Deployment and upgrade of SQL Server engine & clients
  • Advanced level Experience with DTS, SSIS Packages, T-SQL, SQL Reporting Services ,Analysis Services, stored procedures, triggers, views, constraints , cursors and power shell
  • Logical and Physical database design, performance, scalability and tuning reviews/assessments (DB and SQL tuning), and query monitoring
  • Experience with all types of SQL Replication technologies
  • Hands on experience with Backup recovery, high availability/ SQL Cluster technology
  • Ability to provide configuration, monitoring and on-call support for development, test, and production environments
  • SQL Monitoring Tools like Quest or Idera for SQL
  • Knowledge and experience with SQL Server memory management and the differences between editions and platforms (32bit and 64bit)
  • Windows operating system knowledge as it pertains to SQL databases, server performance and security
  • Fundamental network concepts
  • Security models as they pertain to various SQL database/server deployments
  • Working Knowledge of Veritas Netbackup or Commvault  with SQL
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Azure SQL Server implementation
  • Hands on experience with using SAN storage for the SQL Server Databases
