Team Overview:


The Wintel – Messaging team provides engineering services and operational support for the Northwell messaging and collaboration environment. The primary messaging platform is Microsoft Exchange.


Position Summary:


The primary purpose of the messaging engineer is to provide day-to-day operational support and engineering enhancements of the existing Messaging environment. The messaging engineer is a highly skilled engineer, with deep understanding of the latest messaging technologies and trends.


  • Execute day-to-day support activities to ensure service level agreements, project deliverables and customer commitments are being met 
  • Provide management and management systems with updates on current status of incidents, changes and requests being executed
  • Execute tasks associated with project delivery; specifically with regard to email migrations for new hospital acquisitions to O365 or to implement new features of the O365 environment.
  • Respond to monitoring alerts and execute reporting of system health and capacity through the use of tools and procedures to ensure compliancy with service level agreements and operational standards
  • Lead internal projects and coordinate activities with internal staff, external vendors, outside departments, divisions and groups within Allscripts and the Northwell Health system
  • Contribute to the development of and implement tactical and strategic plans for supporting the company’s messaging infrastructure
  • Identify potential areas for improving processes/procedures, server configurations and server images.
  • Contribute to the development of, maintenance of and adherence to system standards, policies, procedures and documentation to support consistency and compliancy requirements for corporate initiatives, operational objectives and service level agreements
  • Perform other related duties as required


Academic and Professional Qualifications:

  •  BS degree in Information Science/Computer Science/Software Engineering/Business preferred



  • Minimum 2 plus years’ experience of MS Exchange administrative and operational support activities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2013
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange Online) Administration and Support
  • Experience migrating/merging email systems
  • Proficiency with network protocols and infrastructure concepts
  • Proficiency with high availability and disaster recovery technologies/methodologies (CCR/SCR/DAG)
  • Proficiency with ActiveSync support
  • Experience with AirWatch MDM
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Server Operating Systems (Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, 2012) 
  • Proficiency with Symantec Enterprise Vault or similar archiving technologies
  • Strong knowledge of automation techniques and scripting languages such as PowerShell and VBScript
  • Knowledge of Active Directory and DNS technologies/methodologies 
  • Knowledge of Windows Clustering/Failover Clustering
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting (problem determination/resolution) skills
  • MCP/MSCE certification preferred


Travel Requirements:

  •  May require local travel
  •  May require other travel for business needs


Working Arrangements:

  • May require after hours on call support
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards
