2bPrecise, a division of Allscripts, is actively seeking a cloud security engineer to build and own a security-in-depth strategy and operations that will ensure the privacy and security of healthcare and genomic data for its client-base. 2bPrecise is a cloud-based Precision Medicine company focused on collecting, normalizing and analyzing clinical, genomic and other person-centric data sets and providing clinically relevant intelligence back to the physician within their normal workflow without the need for exiting their primary clinical system of record.


Job Responsibilities

As an Azure Cloud Security Engineer your focus will be to ensure the security and availability of 2bPrecise’s ever-growing cloud footprint. You will be a critical member of the Security Engineering team directly contributing to projects spanning multiple technical areas, including: cutting edge information security technologies, enterprise level architecture and security frameworks. You will be involved early-on in the information technology design process. 2bPrecise’s private and public cloud footprint is quickly expanding as more of the healthcare industry comes to understand the value of genomics and precision medicine. You will work with a variety of engineering disciplines and distributed teams to provide guidance during each step of our cloud technology lifecycle.  The goal is the construction of a global, enterprise-wide, secure technology platform that goes beyond the requirements of HIPAA privacy and security.

As a self-motivated team player with excellent communication and organizational skills, you will enjoy the quick pace while keeping in sync with colleagues across multiple geographic areas. Your analytical and critical thinking skills, along with your training and experience, will provide you the ability to understand security concerns and risks from both technical and business perspectives and allow you to secure and protect business critical operational systems and our rapidly developing cloud infrastructure.


Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Defining, developing and validating creative standards, policies, and solutions to meet business needs for functional, security, and regulatory requirements
  • Using excellent documentation and communication skills to allow easier adoption of the defined security policies and procedures
  • Automating security solutions leveraging tools available in cloud platforms
  • Define and implement automated monitoring capabilities that ensure you and the 2bPrecise management team are aware of intrusion vectors well before they have an opportunity to affect the platform and all information entrusted therein


Academic and Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field (or equivalent experience)


  • Minimum of 3 years administration or security experience
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, security architectures, and relevant standards
  • Strong background in Information Security concepts
    • Secure software design
    • Network security
    • Risk, vulnerabilities, and threats
  • Proficient with several languages, at least one in Scala, Java, Python, Ruby, Shell, Javascript, C/C++
  • Enthusiasm for adapting to new languages and frameworks
  • Linux system administration
    • Creation and maintenance of client tenant environments
    • Applying of security and system patches
    • Monitoring and provisioning of elastic resources
  • Familiar with networking and protocols such as TCP, HTTP/HTTPS, IPSEC, BGP, VLANs
  • Familiarity with frameworks and technologies such as Akka, Hadoop, Spark, Rails, Django



  • Previous experience within the healthcare domain
  • Familiarity with OpenStack and or Azure Web Services
  • Hands on experience building highly-available, geographically-distributed, dynamically scalable, API-driven services
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA/HITECH security and privacy regulations
  • Familiarity with FedRamp
  • Understanding of regulations/frameworks (ex: PCI, PII, ISO 27001, NIST)
  • Recognized security certifications are highly desirable (CISSP, GIAC, CEH and others)
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Experience with modern DevOps toolchains
  • Properly assess risk and balance business requirements against necessary security controls


 Travel Requirements:

  • Available to travel up to 25%

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards
