The Expert Systems Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the IT infrastructure systems at a large health system in Skokie, IL. Will act as lead engineer for VMWare, Servers, Networks, Exchange, Citrix and related infrastructure. Role will be a mix of project based work and independant work.The Expert Systems Engineer utilizes proven systems, scripting and developer skills to execute on highly complex tasks related to hardware and software technology component analysis, integration, and incident and problem resolution. 

Responsibilities

  • Possess Expert level expertise in the assigned technology domain.
  • Design, manage, maintain, monitor and support the infrastructure environment in assigned technology domain.
  • Install, configure and support hardware and software required to operate assigned technology.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance including updates, patches and anti-virus updates.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in assigned technology including hardware, software, operating system and application-related issues.
  • Conduct performance monitoring, system health checks, trending analysis and capacity planning.
  • Provide 3rd level operational support for issues escalated from Service Desk.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to technology installation, administration and maintenance.
  • The role also creates, reviews, and ensures updates are made to the configuration management plan. 
  • Formulates and defines system scope and objectives based on user and organization requirements and consistent with the organizations architecture. This includes monitoring and controlling the performance and status of technology components, and providing technology component support and problem resolution.
  • Develops architectures to address business requirements, ensuring system scalability, security, performance and reliability. 
  • Devises or modifies highly complex procedures and configuration to solve problems considering platform infrastructure capacity and limitations and form of desired results.
  • Leads and directs the technical delivery of others. 
  • Critical thinking and an advanced degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

  • Provide accurate and timely information and escalates when there are issues.
  • Actively participate in meetings and make valuable contribution.

Qualifications

Academic and Professional Qualifications:

  •  BS degree in Information Science/Computer Science/Software Engineering/Business preferred

 

Experience:

  • 7+ years expert level experience providing systems engineering in assigned product, recognized as an expert in this subject area within the organization preferred
  • 8 or more years of related advanced experience and technology certification in appropriate technologies preferred (i.e. Windows, Citrix, VMware, Hardware,  Network, ITIL, etc.). 
  • Health IT Industry experience preferred

Travel Requirements:

  •  May require local travel
  •  May require other travel for business needs

 

Working Arrangements:

  • May require after hours on call support
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards
