The Network Engineer position is vital to ensuring the health and security of the network and related support systems for our client, a 24x7, multisite healthcare system based in Whittier, CA.  As such, candidates must be able to thrive in situations that require the highest level of customer service, attention to detail, proactive problem solving and time management.  

Responsibilities

  • Design & architecture.  Understands basic network design, architecture and layers of the OSI model.
  • Routing & switching.  Understands and is able to configure, deploy, monitor and troubleshoot switches and routers.
  • Firewalls.  Understands and is able to configure, deploy, monitor and troubleshoot firewalls.
  • Wireless networking.  Understands and is able to configure, deploy, monitor and troubleshoot access points, controllers and end-user devices.
  • Data center / IDF.  Understands and is able to deploy, monitor and troubleshoot fiber interconnects, low-voltage cabling and UPS systems.
  • Possess expertise in the assigned technology domain.
  • Manage, maintain, monitor and support the infrastructure environment in assigned technology domain.
  • Install, configure and support hardware and software required to operate assigned technology.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance including updates, patches and anti-virus updates.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in assigned technology including hardware, software, operating system and application-related issues.
  • Conduct performance monitoring, system health checks, trending analysis and capacity planning.
  • Provide 3rd level operational support for issues escalated from Service Desk.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to technology installation, administration and maintenance.

The technical environment consists of Cisco switches, routers, access points and firewalls (ASA and Firepower), Palo Alto firewalls, two data centers and multiple office buildings connected over a WAN.

  • Provide data to generate team performance metrics.
  • Knowledge transfer with other team members to improve overall team education level
  • Take complete ownership for the assigned task and timely inform the progress of the project / task to all stakeholders.
  • Adherence to the defined standards.
  • Take initiative and drives to bring to logical conclusion; proactive approach.
  • Provide accurate and timely information and escalates when there are issues.
  • Actively participate in meetings and make valuable contribution.

Qualifications

Academic and Professional Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Information Science/Computer Science/Software Engineering/Business preferred

 

Experience:

  • 2-4 years practical experience in providing systems engineering design & architecture, support and maintenance in assigned product preferred.
  • Health IT or experience in a highly regulated industry preferred. 
  • Excellent customer service, attention to detail, proactive problem solving and time management skills required.

 

Travel Requirements:

  •  May require local travel
  •  May require other travel for business needs

 

Working Arrangements:

  • May require after hours on call support
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards
